Eric Topol’s Substack, “Ground Truths” today has very similar conclusions to my “Clear and Present Thinking” post of 3/4 about the significance of the relatively long period with no new variant challenging XBB, as a marker for a new endemic phase, albeit one marked by persistent moderate level hospitalization and death. Remember endemic doesn’t mean benign.  Also, he reaches other similar conclusions.  I’m not as sold on metformin as a preventative for Long COVID, based on one RCT as he seems to be, but it’s cheap and little side effects.  The lack of an established mechanism beyond vague references to antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, possible anti-viral activity puts it in the still very questionable category for me. I recommend reading Eric Topol today.
